A review of a Superman and Lois episode. But it only makes sense if you know what I look for in an episode. Season one of the series is winding down. Tal-Rho is captured and General Sam Lane is, strangely enough in a de-escalating, disarming the Department of Defense state of mind.
Superman & Lois: Fail Safe (2021) Episode 13, Season 1
When Tyler Hoechlin first showed up on Supergirl season 2 as Superman-Clark Kent he had a baby-face. But there was an early season 1 Supergirl episode where newborn superhero Kara had to learn to control her anger.
Director Henshaw told her that a lot of people fear Superman, not because he has the power of a god but because they're afraid of
what would happen if that 'god' lost control. She eventually learns to make her emotions work for her rather than be afraid of her anger. And here we see
Superman still
struggling with that same question. Despite having been Superman for the last 20 years. Having been possessed by General Zod he's terrified of one question. "What can be done if I lost
control...and how can I allow it?"
"You fight against your real nature everyday. You
hold yourself back because that's the only way we can walk amongst
humans without killing them." Tal tells Clark from prison. Proving that he actually does understand his brother. Clark had already confessed this
to Jordan. How he struggles with anger because if he does
ever lose his temper people will not only feel betrayed but could quite possibly die. We get decent proof that
this General Lane is not nearly the racist jar-head the General Lane
of Supergirl's Earth was. I have to admit I was confused why
Clark was so resistant to Sam's de-escalating,
disarming the Department of Defense state of mind. his more hopeful approach.
But Clark explains it in a Beautiful conversation to Lois. One of the best parts was seeing Clark and John Henry begin to develop a sincere report and start to grow as friends. Kara never had a friendship like that really. I mean duh she had friends but friends who were in her life at work that she needed. We've never seen Jimmy and Clark being Jimmy and Clark in the CW before, not really. This feels like THAT sort of relationship.
I get the feeling that much like 'A Brief Reminiscence Before Cataclysmic Events' everything is about to happen and we're taking a breath first.
