You ARE my Family
“It's been years since I thought of myself as a prisoner. But I swore an oath. That without your permission I would not leave your side. Of of course I am asking your permission!”
“It is more than granted.”
Jeremiah suddenly looked uncertain. “J'onn I...I'm coming back. It's only for a couple of days.”
J'onn Jo'nzz shook his head sadly. “You told me once that even your son was not enough for you to want to go back. Once you see your family, you'll never come back here. And I would never get in the way of that. Jeremiah, if you have someone in this life you needs you, I would never knowingly keep you from them. Is that not what 'brotherhood' means?”
“Uh...you have a point. Wait, does that mean?”
“I'll fly you back. I want to meet Henshaw again.”
“It occurs to me I know very little about your life while you were gone.” Hank Henshaw said idly to Jeremiah.
“You are asking without asking what J'onn did to me while I was with him?” The man replied, almost cagily.
“And what obligation he freed you from.” Elias interjected.
“I promised him that if he let you go home, then I would stay with him. I was not his prisoner. A captive perhaps, in that I wasn't allowed to leave. But he did not mistreat me. We were friends. Sarrin's original words on the matter could not have been more true. I can move freely about the premises as long as I did not try to leave the premises. When I asked J'onn for permission to come back here, I told him it was only for a couple of days. I wanted to see if Nikita was wholeheartedly backing you or just towing a company line. If she...If she was part of the D.E.O by choice. 5 minutes later, he released me of my oath.”
“You were true friends.”
“It was weird thinking fo someone who was technically your jailer as your friend but yes, we were. Tell the truth, I miss him. I always will. But home for him is wherever Sarrin is. Home for me is with my son and working with Nikita.”
“Is that your way of asking to return to duty at the D.E.O?” Elias prompted.
“It's me offering to, if he wants me.”
